The Ground She Walks On is an initiative coordinated by the Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center to celebrate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day (March 8). It is borne out of our work to commemorate and celebrate women’s achievements at and contributions to UVA as students, faculty, and staff. In particular, we celebrate extraordinary moments of women’s leadership that have changed UVA, moving it closer to its ideals.
We call on partners across Grounds to join us in spotlighting the accomplishments of women throughout history – here at UVA, to be certain, but globally as well. The great and good community does not sideline half its members or obscure their contributions. We were thrilled by the number of student organizations that applied for funding to support their programming ideas for the inaugural Women’s History Month in March 2022. We look forward to continuing support for similar faculty-, staff-, and student-led initiatives again in March 2023. Check out our funding proposals announcement here to learn more about our co-sponsorship opportunities for Women's History Month events and programming in 2023.
Our colleagues in the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion have provided invaluable support to this initiative throughout the planning phase. Their enthusiastic response to this initiative embodies the spirit of our aspiration for The Ground She Walks On.
